There are many ways of creating an infographic but it must contain at least some icons, illustrations, data visualizations, charts with minimal text. After all, it’s the visuals that count and it doesn’t have to be complicated at all! Before you start, here are 4 tips that you should know:

  1. Pick a Winning Topic

Don’t be fooled by the safe name, sharing information with others is a great way to connect to people around the world. Infographics don’t have to be boring, so pick a topic that you’re passionate about or at least know in great detail. Start with an awesome title that explains what you’ve researched clearly and concisely.

  1. Keep the Research Simple

Nobody has time to read anymore. And bulky paragraphs are perfect if you want to scare people away!

Go through your research and make sure to get clear bullet points you can include that aren’t too wordy. Break them down into simpler sentences to fit into your designs. You don’t want your readers to feel like they have to read a novel just to get to the point!

Follow the ole rule of K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Sweetie)! Make the message straight to the point and your readers will love you for it!

  1. Lay It Out In Style

Nothing says style like an awesome layout. But first ask yourself these questions:

  1. What information is the most important?

  2. Where should they start reading first?

  3. What path should it follow?

  4. Which great points can I end with?

Once you’ve got these answers then you should move onto the design. Create symmetry and flow for your infographics and experiment with style. Avoid unnecessary mess and clutter.

Test out your infographic by having someone read it. If they get distracted or bored then it’s not a winner, so keep revising until you can make their attention stick!

  1. More Colors Please!

Infographics should never be dull. Try to keep the colors bright and vibrant to make your topic much more interesting. Look up color theory and incorporate what you’ve learned into your designs. Make important information stand out by changing colors, or separate good points from bad ones by making the colors follow suit. Try out new color schemes until you’ve found the perfect one. You never know, your eye-catching designs could even become a viral hit!
